Envisioning that “every child and young person will be able to develop the values to help and care for themselves and others” we have the pleasure to invite you to next the Humanitarian Education Webinar:on Wednesday, 25 May 2016, 3:00 pm (CET)
“Value-based Education: Guiding the Next Generation towards Humanitarian Principles – also in Emergencies”

Increased humanitarian needs, protracted crises, violence, conflicts, natural disasters and regionalized complex emergencies, such as forced displacement and migration, are all humanitarian challenge scalling for sustainable solutions. Humanitarian education, or values-based education, is an essential pillar to find such solutions and prevent human suffering, strengthen resilience as well as guarantee high-quality education in emergencies in the context of the UN global education agenda 2030.

We invite you to learn more about the outcomes and the follow up of the Humanitarian education side-event during the First World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul. The Swiss Government and the IFRC will co-host this side event.

Moderation: Yenisleidy Simon-Mengana, American Red Cross

Welcome Note: Ariel Kestens, Policy, Strategy and Knowledge Department, IFRC

Susanna Graf from the Swiss Government and Karl Zarhuber from IFRC will share the outcomes of the humanitarian education side event scheduled for 24 May 09:00 – 10:30 at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul. The main objectives of this side event are:

  1. Enhancing the commitment of concerned organisations and states to engage children and youths in conflict prevention, resolution processes and community recovery. This can be achieved by promoting  and implementing value-based humanitarian education in their national policies, strategies as well as formal, non-formal and informal educational curricula.
  2. Applying confidence-based and value-based dialogue, which reinforces social cohesion and promotes long-term community reconciliation by making individuals, households and communities more resilient.
  3. Eliminating education gaps by teaching children and adolescents about positive transformation and providing access to high-quality education in line with qualifications and standards before, during and after crises and emergencies.
