JUHAN SCHOOLS STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH HAITI FOLLOWING HURRICANE MATTHEW
On October 4, 2016 Hurricane Matthew made landfall in Haiti, pummeling the island with 145 mile per hour winds and over 3 feet of rain making it the worst humanitarian crisis since the devastating earthquake six years ago. Large swaths of the country, already some of the poorest areas in the Western Hemisphere, were affected. As news from Haiti reached our shores, JUHAN schools sprang into action. JUHAN called upon our university partners to stand in solidarity with those affected by Hurricane Matthew through our JUHAN Helps Haiti campaign.
A number of our JUHAN regional hub schools stood answered the call and stood in solidarity with those affected by the earthquake through events on campus to raise funds for Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) post-disaster programs in Haiti. The College of the Holy Cross held collections at their masses, and a fundraising table in their campus center, raising close to $5,000. Fairfield University held information tables and fundraising events – including in its 10 residents halls – to increase awareness of the disaster in Haiti as well as the grave danger that the cholera outbreak would be worsened by the disaster (cholera has already claimed close to 10,000 lives since 2010). Le Moyne College in Syracuse NY, held a second collection at their Sunday masses for several weekends. The University of Scranton is planning events related to the disaster in Haiti for Humanitarian Action Day next week. So far, the collaborative JUHAN effort has raised $6,500 toward CRS programming in Haiti.
The JUHAN schools would like to thank all those who donated to helping those affected by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti and to let the people of Haiti know that our thoughts, prayers and support are with them during this difficult time.
There is still time to help! One agency we recommend sending donations to is Catholic Relief Services (CRS). You can visit their blog as well as set up a JUHAN specific fundraising page for your campus

On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 Hurricane Matthew made landfall in Haiti. This is the worst humanitarian crisis since the devastating earthquake six years ago.
The 145 mile per hour winds and over 3 feet of rain has ravaged large swaths of the country which is already the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. There is also a grave fear that the cholera, outbreak which has already claimed close to 10,000 lives since 2010, will be exacerbated.
One agency we recommend donating to is Catholic Relief Services (CRS). You can visit their blog as well as set up a JUHAN specific fundraising page for your campus.
